Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • 1. WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE OVERNIGHT CAMP REGISTRATION FEE?

    — 3-5 days of INCREDIBLE summer camp experiences.

    — 3 meals and an evening snack every day.

    — One awe-inspiring night under the stars (we know this as Campout).

    — 3 skill sessions each day.

    — Time well spent soaking up the rays on our beach.

    — 2 items per day from the Tuck Shop.

    — EXCITING chapel times as well as reflective & relaxing evenings in front of the campfire.

    2. WHEN DO CAMPERS GET DROPPED OFF AND PICKED UP?

Information is available on our Summer Camps page.

    3. WHAT SHOULD CAMPERS BRING TO CAMP?

Bible, pen, notebook, water bottle, warm clothing, enough clothing for your time at camp, a water repellant jacket, sleeping bag, pillow, blanket(s), modest & functional swim wear, insect repellent, sun screen, towel, soap and personal items, toothbrush & toothpaste, flashlight, etc. A more detailed packing list can be found in the Parent’s Guide.

    4. WHAT SHOULD CAMPERS LEAVE AT HOME?

We ask that campers DO NOT bring lighters or matches, knives, weapons of any kind, drugs or drug paraphernalia. Also, electronic media devices such as cell phones should be left at home.

Wondering why? These items distract kids from their time at camp. We want campers to be away from the noise and distractions of normal life for their week at camp. Also, we want to do the best we can for all campers in protecting them from all forms of potential cyber-bullying (and in light of the Privacy Act legislation).

Please note that Katepwa Lake Camp is not responsible for lost, broken, or stolen items.

    5. WILL THERE BE TIME FOR ME TO USE THE BOATS IF I'M NOT IN WATER SPORTS AS A SKILL?

ABSOLUTELY! We have the boats in the water during free time!

    6. WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION FEE FOR SUMMER CAMP?

Fees are fully refundable until May 15th, after which there is a $50 cancellation fee. Within 14 days of your camp, fees paid are non-refundable.

To cancel your registration, please call the camp office or email admin@katepwalakecamp.com.

    7. IS THERE STILL A CANCELLATION FEE IF A CAMP WEEK IS SOLD OUT?

While some campers may be put on a waitlist, often when it gets that close to camp those campers make other plans assuming that they will not get into camp. Most times we are not able to fill spots so close to camp even when so many campers would have been able to come. We have the cancellation fee to encourage people to commit to camp by the 14-day cutoff.

    9. WHAT KIND OF SUPERVISION IS THERE AT KLC?

We pick responsible staff and volunteers who have a passion for working with kids and youth. These staff go through a thorough training process which prepares them for working with kids and youth. In addition to training, all staff and volunteers must submit Vulnerable Sector & Criminal Record Checks prior to arriving.

Campers receive supervision at all times. Our staff/camper ratio is 1:6. There are two cabin leaders in each cabin (One Senior and one Junior).

    10. Does KLC offer day camps?

In short, no. All of our Summer and Winter Camps are overnight camps. While we did briefly offer day camps in 2021 in light of the pandemic, we are thrilled to be able to go back to what we do best - overnight camps for kids.

    11. How religious is camp? What if my child isn’t a Christian?

KLC is committed to providing high-quality programming with a focus on empowering kids through skills and activities, games, exciting chapel sessions, intentional cabin hang-time, and more. Our schedule has chapel each day, alongside campfires where staff will share what God is doing in their lives. In the evenings, cabin leaders will lead devotional times with a Bible story and discussion with their campers. Campers are encouraged to ask questions and our staff seek to make each child feel comfortable exploring what they believe without pressuring them.

The camp is affiliated with the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada and our teaching comes from a Christian perspective, though we welcome campers from any and all backgrounds!

Yes, dogs are allowed at KLC! However, there are some rules we ask you to abide by:

    — All dogs must be leashed during KLC programming.

    — The owners must have control of their pet at all times and are responsible for any damages done. Dogs that show any type of aggression will be asked to leave.

    — Please make sure to pick up after your dog and use the outdoor garbage bins for disposal.

    — Pets are not allowed inside KLC facilities, including the Lodge, Turnbull Chapel, Worship Centre, and all cabins, or at the beach during programming.

    — Registered campers and renters are not permitted to bring pets to camp for their stay.

    3. IS KLC WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE?

Unfortunately, there are many barriers to physical accessibility at camp due to the geography of the valley and the age of our buildings. However, it is a long-term goal of KLC to make our facilities accessible to everyone.

    4. CAN I VISIT THE CAMP DURING THE OFF-SEASON? HOW CAN I GET A TOUR?

We would love to have you visit! We just ask that you contact our camp office first to set up a day and time. If you’d like to get a tour of the camp, one of our staff would be happy to show you around.
