We know how much COVID-19 has impacted the mental and physical health of our children. Camp has always been and will continue to be, an excellent avenue for healthy living and meaningful development in all areas of a young person’s life. This is why we’re committed to fulfilling our vision of uncovering the worth and potential of every person who calls Katepwa Lake Camp home, as well as welcoming those who will be visiting our camp for the very first time.
Day Camps
In July 2021, we’re planning to offer SUMMER DAY CAMPS for the first time ever at KLC. This will allow us to offer all the best parts of camp while still satisfying government restrictions and keeping everyone safe. This includes tubing, zipline, rock wall, archery, swimming, crafts, chapel, and much more. The first full week of July will be the Junior Teen week and the second week will be a Junior camp. The third week will be a new camp for the junior age group called “Choose your Adventure camp” where families can sign up for either a Sports Camp or a Design Art Camp. We’re also hoping to offer a couple of Scamper dates in the last week of July, but we are holding out to make a firm decision on that front for now.
Why day camps?
We’re opting for the day camp model because at this time we’re assuming the government restrictions will be the same as last year: where day camps can operate but overnight camps cannot. If overnight camps are allowed to operate, we will switch our programming to a day camp/overnight camp hybrid model. This means that the day camp option will still be available for everyone who signed up, but overnight camps will run in conjunction with these day camps. Families will have the option of either sticking with the original plan of doing day camps or registering their child for our classic overnight camp experience.
Leader in Training
Our Leader In Training program is also making a return, running alongside our day camp programming, but will function as an overnight experience as normal. The first and second year will run in conjunction from July 11th to 30th, with the LITs being at the camp from Sunday evening until Friday afternoon each week.
Family Getaways & Swimming Lessons
Additionally, we’re planning to once again open our camp in August for families to sign up for Family Getaways, with meals and activities being provided throughout their stay. More information on all this will be available on our website soon, and you can sign up for our mailing list if you’d like to be the first to hear about it. Overnight camp or not, we’re also very excited to announce that we will be offering swimming lessons this year which will be delivered by our awesome NLS certified lifeguard, Olivia.
If you would like to see overnight camp happen this year, we encourage you to write a letter to your MLA, telling them how important overnight camp is to you, and why you think it should be allowed this summer. We can’t wait to see all of your faces in 2021, and we’re eager to meet those of you who visit KLC for the very first time! We’re trusting God in this season, and hope that you will continue to pray for us as we go into this turbulent but exciting time!
